Members need to gain the skills, confidence and practice to run events and competitions to ensure the continued success of the National Federation of Plus Areas.
Members also need to recognise and pass on their experience to enthuse others to take on the role of organisers and participate in organising teams.
Such organisers and teams will recognise the constraints/impacts of public contractors and the community at large to deliver events and competitions that will deliver fun, satisfaction and enjoyment for all.
To utilise a variety of experience and learning situations in a safe environment to equip Plus members with the skills to organise large scale events.
Members will realise their skills and opportunities to the benefit of themselves as Plus members, managers, team members and to the community at large.

Fancy taking part in the Southern Area Hedge Hop?
Each SA
Club is encouraged to put a team together to take part in this barmy event. Single participants from different Clubs can join up to make a team too.
The Hedge Hop is a team event (3 - 4 people per team and each Club can have more than one team) which involves a 4 mile timed walk/jog along country roads in the dark. It starts at 6.30pm and along the route there are clues to answer. If that sounds easy enough, there will be spotters in cars patrolling the route. If they spot any of the team members you get a time penalty. (Hence why it's called a hedgehop!) Once you are back at the pub there will be a buffet (provided by Southern Area).
Where? The Coronation Arms, St Mary, Bourne nr Andover SP11 6AR
How much? £1 per person
Please do support this - it's a lot of fun!

Settlers of Catan
Submitted by paula.oakley on 8 September 2009 - 4:11pm.

Calling all players of Settlers of Catan for our annual get together of furious strategic game play!
Settlers of Catan is a multiplayer board game designed by Klaus Teuber. It was first published in 1995 in Germany by Franckh-Kosmos Verlag (Kosmos) under the name Die Siedler von Catan.
The players in the game represent settlers establishing colonies on the island of Catan. Players build settlements, cities, and roads to connect them as they settle the island. The game board representing the island is composed of hexagonal tiles (hexes) of different land types which are laid out randomly at the beginning of each game.
Players build by spending resources (clay, lumber, wool, grain, and ore), represented by resource cards; each land type produces a specific resource. On each player's turn, they roll the two dice, determining which hexes produce resources. Any players with settlements or cities adjacent to hexes marked with the number rolled receive resource cards of the appropriate type. There is also a robber token on the board; if a player rolls 7, they move the robber to any hex, which will no longer produce resources until the robber is moved again; they also steal a resource card from another player.
The goal of the game is to possess ten victory points on one's turn. Players possess one point for each settlement built, and a second for each settlement upgraded to a city. Various other achievements, such as establishing the longest road, grant a player additional victory points.

All members of Clubs in Southern Area are welcome to play. Please bring nibbles and drink to last the duration. If you have a Settlers board please bring it with you too. Plan to meet up and play at Leo and Sues house so please let Leo if you wish to partake.

Southern Area Bowling!!!!!
Yep, it is that time of year again where we all get together to Strike it Lucky. It's all about having fun and maybe a little bit of Club Pride and a Trophy at stake.
The plan is to bowl during the afternoon and those that wish to can grab some food afterwards in a nearby pub or Pizza Hut.
Southern Area Bowling is being organised by Leo. There will be 2 games of bowling for £10 and this has to be paid to him by the 4th October. You can either send him a cheque directly or via your own Club (speak to your Events Officer or Chair). Every member in Southern Area is invited to take part and hopefully there will be a group of people from each Club.
